Alors qu'une autopsie pratiquée aujourd'hui devrait expliquer la mort brutale d'Heath Ledger, la communauté hollywoodienne encore sous le choc a déploré unanimement la fin tragique de l'acteur. Le réalisateur Todd Haynes, qui l'avait dirigé dans I'm not there, a déclaré: "Heath était un véritable artiste, un homme d'une grande sensibilité, quelqu'un de curieux, de talentueux et d'une grande sagesse".

L'acteur a été retrouvé mort dans un appartement de Manhattan qu'il louait à Mary-Kate Olsen par une masseuse et une femme de ménage dans la nuit du mardi au mercredi. Selon la police, l'acteur était recroquevillé près de son lit, le visage tourné contre le sol.
